December, 2016 Newsletter

Our dearest Flavorians,
We would like to welcome you all into December by telling you about Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Week! As many of you know, our business started because of these medical conditions. This week is dedicated to informing the general public about what Inflammatory Bowel Diseases are and how they affect the lives of many across the world. For those of you who may not know, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is the condition developed by inflammation in our digestive track. This inflammation may be due to an over active immune system response, genetics, stress and many be other factors. This ailment is where our Juicing journey began and has helped us stay on a health track for the past several years.

To show our support, we are offering a new juice combo, "Stalwarts", that we strongly believe will provide your body the tools and nutrition essential to the body at about a 20% discounted price till the end of the year! Check it out [here](https://flavorjuicery.com/products/stalwarts).
In addition to Stalwarts, we are also offering our Pitaya and Acai Berry products at a 10% discounted price till December 7th!
Please be on a lookout for some more exciting and HEALTHY options to welcome the new year. This year has been a journey of discoveries and inventions of products and our resolve to survive. You all have played a very important part in all of it. Thank you!

Flavor School
==========

There is always something exciting to be learning when it comes to taking care of our bodies! Flavor School is delving back into the macromolecules found in our bodies. We've discussed carbohydrates and lipids (fats) at length so we will now move onto proteins! Proteins are an essential nutrient to the human body. They are an important building block in muscles and tissues, and can also serve as a fuel source. A variety of proteins are also involved in different metabolic processes in the body. Proteins are made by little building blocks called amino acids. There are 20 amino acids of which 9 are essential amino acids. This means that those essential 9 amino acids cannot be synthesized by our body so we need to make sure to consume them in our diet. The 9 essential amino acids are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Proteins themselves also have very complex structures. Proteins are organized into four levels of structure: primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. Primary structure is the linear arrangment of amino acids in a protein that are joined together by linkages called disulfide bonds. Secondary structure is the areas of folding or coiling within a protein which include alpha helices and beta pleated sheets. Tertiary structure is the final three-dimensional structure of a protein. Finally, quaternary structure is multiple peptides being put into a single, larger protein. Often times, when our body is not functioning properly there is an issue with one of the structural levels in our proteins so make sure to keep your protein levels up by drinking and eating your favorite Flavor Juicery Products!
